  Clarification of my previous point in regard to how this case is similar to the Conti case.

  If you go back over the Rick Simons interviews you'll notice he specifically states that certain conditions must be met for a case to have a chance to succeed. He also hints to other cases that have merit but do not stack up to the specifics of the Conti complaint.

  As quite rightly pointed out by DATA-DOG there is clear evidence of "special relationship", a point vehemently denied by Watchtower at the Conti trial.

  The legal team in this McFarland case have made a very good arguement that a special relationship exists between Watchtower and "ALL" members whether they have a position of responsibility or not - everyone is appointed as an ordained minister and representitive of of the "company" at point of baptism.

  The Watchtower controls every aspect of a members life from whether or not they can become a member in the first place through to what to eat, what to wear, who to marry, what medical treatment to have, how to have sex and who with, what to think, what not to think, what to say, what opinions to have and so on. If you break the company code on any of these points willfully then you are punished and removed. The McFarland case outlines the extent to which Watchtower has control and dictates the life course of all members regardless of rank.

  It cannot be argued that Watchtower has no control over the actions of it's members.

  The other similarity is the fact that the abuser in the McFarland case had a history of abusing which Watchtower was aware of and did not take the necessary action to prevent further acts of abuse.

  i know that a lynch mob forms whenever there's a hint of anybody being a pedophile, but the truth is that not all are the slavering, predatorial animals that they are painted to be.

  each circumstance has its' own specifics.

  in defense of the wts, they do keep track of confirmed pedophiles now.

  Interesting comment jhine in regard to child porn. An elder in our congregation who was convicted for child sex offences was found to have thrown his laptop away just as it came to light that he'd been up to no good.

  It's just an opinion but in my view it smacks of suspicion.

  Hence the need for congregations to report all instances of child abuse whether there are two witnesses or not as the authorities have the resources to check things like internet history which hepls to build a profile of the alleged offender.

  Hmm, it doesn't actually say whether he was convicted of the first case of abuse. Can This be found out through court records or did he commit suicide before facing a jury? Perhaps I need to give it another read...

  Some really good points in the complaint especially focusing on the congregation control over every aspect of a persons life clearly demonstrating a special relationship. Every time a new case comes forward, the legal brief is just going to get better and better. No more can they say they are not responsible for the actions of congregation members when they control the members at such a detailed level. Go get em!!

  A day in the life of a fading JW

  i'm five months into my slow fade and it's going so-so.

  my saturday morning was spent on a 3-mile jog and taking the kids to the park, which was great, but i'm still shuddering from the potential alternative.

  at the last meeting, an elderette literally blocked the exit to prevent my escape and said she just "noticed" that we were in the same field service group and would i like to work with her in service on saturday?

  I got the impression Dissonance Resolved was female?? Anyway, keep up the good work even though at times it feels far from good. It's a long road for most but it really does make you stronger and happier. You must already be feeling a weight lifting and the silly guilt trips fading.
